TallyPrime Silver vs Gold: Which Should You Buy?
Updated October 2026 · by cSoft Solutions, Certified Tally Partner, Chennai
Both editions run exactly the same software with exactly the same features. The entire decision comes down to one question: how many people need to use Tally at the same time?
Side-by-side comparison

| Simultaneous users | 1 (single computer) | Unlimited on LAN |

| TSS renewal / year | ₹4,500 + GST | ₹13,500 + GST |
| Best for | Owner or one accountant doing entries | Accounts team, billing counter + accountant, multiple branches on one network |
The simple decision rule
If only one person ever enters data at a time — even if the computer is shared across shifts — Silver is enough, and you save ₹45,000. The moment two people need Tally open simultaneously (say, one person billing at the counter while the accountant reconciles bank entries), you need Gold. There is no "2-user" edition; Gold's unlimited-user model is the step up.
Common situations we see in Chennai businesses
Small trader or service firm: one accountant, entries done in batches — Silver, comfortably. Retail shop with a billing counter: billing happens all day while accounts work in parallel — Gold. Growing distributor: starts with Silver, hits the ceiling within a year — this is fine, because the upgrade path is clean: you pay the ₹45,000 difference and continue with the same data, same serial ecosystem, nothing re-entered.
What about accessing Tally from home or a second office?
That's not a Silver/Gold question — it's a connectivity question. With active TSS you get remote access and browser reports on both editions. For full anywhere-access with the complete TallyPrime experience on any device, look at TallyPrime Cloud Access, which works on top of either license. Our Tally on Cloud guide covers this in detail.
